Reader disappointed by lack of voter turnout

Reader disappointed by lack of voter turnout

To the editor:

I am disappointed.

I am extremely disappointed. Yesterday was Election Day. Out of 1,800-plus registered voters in Oakville Township, Pre-cincts 2 and 14, 168 showed up to vote for both the Mehlville Board of Education and the Mehlville Fire Protection District Board of Directors.

We had eight public-minded citizens each put in a 14-hour day and only 168 voters showed up.

How many of our finest young men and women were in the military yesterday, putting their very life on the line so that the citizens of another country have a voice in their government? And only 168 voters showed up to express their voice in matters that affect their tax dollars.

To the 1,700 voters who did not show, you missed your chance to vote for people who control millions of your tax dollars. If you are reading this and did not vote, please make a promise to exercise your right to vote in the next election.

If our military can sacrifice for other countries, the least we can do is get out to vote.
