Reader applauds professionalism of MFPD, wants to re-elect Ryan

Letter to the Editor

To the editor:

The election on April 2 includes a director for the Mehlville Fire Protection District. Ed Ryan has my unconditional support for re-election.

During the 12 years he has served, the district has set its bar high. New firehouses have been built. New equipment has been purchased. All personnel are certified emergency medical technicians. The property tax rate is currently the lowest in St Louis County. Need I say more?

On three occasions during the past 18 months, I have experienced firsthand their response for emergency assistance. Ambulances and personnel were from three different stations but the results were the same.

The responding EMTs were neat, polite and quickly and thoroughly attended to my problem. It was deemed additional care at a local hospital was required so I was transported by ambulance.

During the trip I asked the EMT his opinion of the board. No complaints. One stated, “We are treated as individuals, trained to do our job, provided with the best equipment, and well compensated. I have been employed for 10-plus years and have no desire to work elsewhere.”

I ask: Why break up a cohesive team whose commitment is to provide the best for the citizens of the district at the lowest cost? This is the reason I will vote for Ed and encourage you to do so as well.
