Pupils’ toy drive a success

Pupils at Cornerstone Academy recently joined forces with a local television station and the Toys-for-Tots toy drive, donating 117 gifts for the drive.

Donated items included baby doll strollers, board games and CD players.

“Cornerstone is a school that cares about others and is committed to giving back to the community,” Kim Frederick, a parent of two at the school and a Board of Directors member, stated in a news release. “I believe we are instilling life long lessons by teaching the kids to do the right thing at a very young age.

“As parents, we explained to our children that the gifts are to help children in our community who are in need and less fortunate than us. Hopefully the gifts will help these children have a better Christmas. We want our children to understand the importance of being a blessing to others,” Frederick stated.

As an added benefit for the children, Fox 2 came to the school to videotape them singing Christmas songs and placing gifts in the collection boxes. The footage aired Dec. 18.
