Excitement was in the air as the halls at Blades Elementary School recently were transformed into a celebration of the Chinese New Year.

Pupils were busy making noise with their noisemakers and carrying their lanterns as the Dragon Parade made its way around the school.

The observance of the Chinese New Year has become an annual event at Blades Elementary. Oakville Senior High teacher Gail Wood visits Blades every year to educate students about the Chinese culture. Wood has two daughters attending Blades and she visits their classrooms to share the meaning of the Chinese New Year.

This year Wood brought food for pupils, taught them how to use chopsticks, taught Chinese lettering and discussed Chinese culture. Pupils also were taught Chinese history and to speak a little Chinese.
