To the editor:
The headlines after the Nov. 2 election should have read “No to children, yes to dogs.”
Unfortunately, the Mehlville School District would have had a better chance at passing Prop C had they been in charge of animals, not children.
I realize that Prop B will cost the taxpayers less, but due to the lack of support in the months and weeks leading up to the election and the overwhelming rejection of Prop C, it’s obvious that no amount of tax increase — no matter how little — would have satisfied the Mehlville community. It is ironic that voters will support dogs in the middle of Missouri, but will not support their neighborhood children. Regardless of the outcome, I still believe that the children are our future, not the dogs.
