The St. Louis County Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run accident in which a member of a paving crew was critically injured early this morning — Thursday, May 18.

The accident occurred at roughly 12:45 a.m. at the intersection of Heege Road and New Hampshire Avenue, where the eastbound lanes of Heege Road were closed for paving.

A pickup truck traveling eastbound struck the worker and immediately fled the scene, police said. The vehicle was last seen travelling east on Heege Road and south on Mackenzie.

The worker, a 55-year-old male, was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition, according to police.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a white extended-cab pickup truck, with front-end damage. The vehicle is possibly missing a driver’s side headlight.

The department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons is handling the investigation.

Anyone with any information about the accident is asked to call the Police Department at (636) 529-8210 or CrimeStoppers at (866) 371-TIPS (8477).
