Police investigating carjacking in south county

Police are investigating a carjacking in south county over the weekend in which a woman’s car was stolen at gunpoint after a fender-bender.

The woman, 23, said her silver Nissan Altima was rear-ended by another car at roughly 11:55 p.m. Sunday on Gravois Road after driving east through the intersection at Sappington Road.

She pulled to the side of the road at Gravois and Beirut and got out of her car to exchange information with the driver from the other car. After leaving her vehicle, a man armed with a silver handgun got out of the rear passenger door of the car that hit her, ordered her to the ground in the middle of the road and then stole her car, police said.

Officers from the St. Louis County Police Department’s Affton Southwest Precinct are looking for the carjacking suspect, described as a black man, along with three other black men who were with him in his car, which the woman described as a white older-model passenger car.

After the carjacking, the men drove east on Gravois in their car and the victim’s Nissan.

The woman told police that at least one witness drove by the carjacking on Gravois Road, but did not stop to help. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the attack or have any information on the carjacking to contact the St. Louis County Police Department at (314) 889-2341 or CrimeStoppers at (866) 371-TIPS (8477) or (314) 725-8477.
