Plans revving up for Route 66 Car Cruise

Cruise on down with the family and enjoy a free day of fun at the third annual Crestwood-Sunset Hills Route 66 Car Cruise Aug. 11.

Festivities will begin with an automobile parade at 10 a.m. at Crestwood Court, Watson and Sappington roads, and travel down Watson to South Lindbergh Boulevard and end at Sunset Ford, 11700 Gravois Road.

Sunset Ford, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary in the community this year, will be home to the day’s events, according to a news release.

The festivities include a classic car show at 1 p.m., food booths, music and entertainment throughout the day, fun and games and a concert by St. Louis’ premier oldies band Sh-Boom at 7 p.m.

Additionally, the Route 66 Classic Car Cruise recently announced the Children’s Tumor Foundation as the recipient of the event’s 2012 charity grant. Each year, the event donates excess revenues to a local charity that is providing a needed benefit to the community.

The foundation is dedicated to finding effective treatments and cures for neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves in the body.

Donations will be accepted for the foundation.

All proceeds from the event will support the foundation’s medical research, patient support and education programs.
