The Rev. Dr. Bob Kolb will preach at the German Christmas Vesper Service at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at Peace Lutheran Church, 737 Barracksview Road.
Kolb, a professor at the Concordia Theological Seminary in St. Louis who did graduate study in Europe, will be preceded with the music of the 18-voice Frauenchor — Ladies Chorus — of the St. Louis German Cultural Society.
The chorus will render seasonal numbers in the German language.
The Peace Lutheran Junior Choir, comprised of fourth- through sixth-graders, will sing carols in the vernacular under the direction of Sherry Bierwagen.
The Rev. Dennis A. Kastens, Peace Lutheran Church pastor, will serve as liturgist. Layreaders will assist as lectors from area parishes.
The festive setting, including congregational singing, will be in German. However, English helps will be provided.
High school, college and graduate students studying German, which is spoken by more than 140 million worldwide, are encouraged to attend along with worshippers of all ages, according to a news release issued by the church.
Fellowship, instrumental entertainment and ethnic refreshments will follow the unique holiday service, which is open to the public, in the church social hall.
The service will be broadcast over KFUO (850) AM radio beginning at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17.
