Passenger on ATV killed in train collision

A 28-year-old Imperial woman was killed Saturday night when an all-terrain vehicle she was a passenger on was struck by an Amtrak train just south of the Jefferson Barracks Bridge.

Patricia Dempsey was identified as the passenger on the ATV in the accident that occurred about 8:10 p.m. near 4144 Koch Road, according to the St. Louis County Police Department.

Police said “apparently” the ATV, which was being driven by a 32-year-old man, was on the railroad tracks when it was struck by the train.

The man, who was not identified by police, was airlifted to an area hospital and is expected to survive.

The woman was transported to St. Anthony’s Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
