For the Oakville Senior High football team, the first and fourth quarters seem to be the toughest.

During their first six games, the Tigers have been shut out in eight of the 12 first and fourth quarters they’ve played. The trend continued last Friday in a 33-7 loss to Parkway South.

“They were a lot better than their record indicated,” Oakville head coach Steve Fanara told the Call. “They were able to do a few things that got us off to a bad start.”

Parkway South junior linebacker Wil-liam Royston returned an interception 19 yards to give the Patriots a 7-0 lead.

They extended their lead to 10-0 with a 23-yard field goal by senior kicker Steven Hayes. The Patriots added another touchdown and a field goal before the Tigers broke the shutout.

Oakville (1-5, 1-3 Suburban West) had just 28 yards rushing and never got into a passing groove though the Tigers did get a 57-yard touchdown strike from quarterback Cody Terry to wide receiver Brandon Dillard.

“We tried to balance things up a bit, but we were not able to get anything started,” Fanara said. “I was a little disappointed in our execution of the passing game. We really didn’t exploit the zone like we should have.”

Terry finished 13-26 for 158 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions, but the sophomore will remain the starter, replacing junior quarterback Sam Kriegel for the rest of the season.

“We’ve made the decision to stay with Cody and let him grow and mature in the system. He did have some nice plays and some nice connections with the re-ceivers.”

With the first half winding down, the Patriots’ Steve Addison threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Hayes, giving Park-way South a 26-7 advantage and a stranglehold on the game.

“Any momentum that we had was completely lost on the ensuing kickoff,” Fanara said.

Parkway South scored its final touchdown of the game with 5:16 left in the fourth quarter as Schwartz connected with senior wide receiver Dominick Pitts on a 20-yard touchdown pass, clinching the 33-7 victory.

On defense, Oakville junior linebacker Chris Kaestner led the Tigers with 12 tackles and one sack.

“He was a kid that was hungry for the football,” Fanara said. “I was really proud about the way he played. He’s a guy that’s really come on lately and gotten better each week.”

The Tigers play host at 7 p.m. Friday to undefeated Kirkwood, which sits atop the Suburban West Conference standings.

“They (Kirkwood) are awfully good,” Fa-nara said. “They have all the tools to put to-gether an outstanding football team. I told our team on Saturday that we’re not going to lie down and quit. We know that in order to beat Kirkwood, we’ll have to play our best game of all this year.”
