The Mehlville High School Pantherettes recently competed in the Universal Dance Association dance camp at Tan-Tar-A Re-sort and came away with the second-place trophy for their “home routine.”
Each day at the camp, the girls learned a new routine and were then evaluated on their performance of that routine. The highest honor available after performing the routines was a superior ribbon. Each Pantherette performing the routines earned a superior ribbon.
Another component of the dance camp was the “drill-downs” competition. During the “drill-downs” events, the girls were given a series of commands and were required to execute them until only a few were left standing. The last girl in the competition received a gold ribbon.
The Pantherettes received a trophy for having the most gold ribbons earned during the week-long dance camp.
Pantherette Andrea Cassani, a junior, placed third in the final “drill-down” competition. In addition, the Pantherettes re-ceived a trophy for receiving all blue ribbons on their performances and earned one of only four “full-out” awards for superior technique. The Pantherettes also were presented the “on-the-ball” award, which is voted on by the other squads at camp.
Three members of the Pantherettes were selected to the UDA All-Star Team and will travel to London during winter break to perform in the New Year’s Day parade.
Earning All-Star honors were senior Jackie Piel and juniors Andrea Piel and Amy Schumacher.
