Panther marching band caps successful season

The Mehlville Senior High marching band completed a successful season this fall, according to a district news release.

Drum Majors Claudia Chavez, Ian Brick-ey and Carrie Hantak led the band to an overall win at the Hazelwood Central Show-case of Sound. The band took first in the Gold Division and won the Outstanding Drum Major and Color Guard awards.

Also, the Marching Mehlville Panthers placed third in Class AAA at Lafayette, second in Class B at Washington and third at an event in Alton, Ill.

The 91-member band, directed by Tony Brown and Don Kinnison, and the 10-member color guard, directed by Leisa Nesselhauf and Mark Martin, performed an “American Legends” show this year.

Besides their on-field efforts, band members sponsored a successful barbecue to raise funds for a new band trailer. The students worked the booth and performed for customers. Among upcoming fund-raisers are car-wash cards and a trivia night.
