To the editor:
Gov. Mike Parson signed a bill in May 2019 revoking local governments’ ability to impose restrictions on corporate pig farms more stringent than state standards.
There are two issues here: state government overriding local government and animal welfare. Commercial pig farms along with other factory farm operations are abominations.
If people saw what went on in these places and their impact on the environment, it would be sure to put them off.
I know covering all the news affecting the local community is not easy. However, if possible, it would be worthwhile to have a regular report on the state Legislature. We should know about legislation like this regarding pig farms so we can have our say. I’ve written to Gov. Parson.
