Ott named Acting Director of County Parks

County Executive Charlie A. Dooley today — April 30 — announced the appointment of Tom Ott as acting director of the county Department of Parks and Recreation.

Ott, a 25-year veteran of the department, takes over for Director Lindsey Swanick, who is retiring today.

Ott has worked for the parks department as a park supervisor, program services manager, park operations manager and, for the past seven years as assistant director. During his career, he has had the opportunity to work for park agencies at the municipal, county, state and federal levels.

Ott attended Florissant Valley Community College before transferring to the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he received his undergraduate degree in fish and wildlife management in 1982. He later attended Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and has a master of science degree in environmental studies. He graduated from Rosary High School in 1978. Ott was born in St. Louis and grew up in Spanish Lake.

He is a member of the Missouri Park and Recreation Association and has served on the Open Space Council Board since May 2008. He lives in Spanish Lake with his wife and two children.
