Optimist Club honors four Mehlville students

Four Mehlville School District seniors were among 14 area high school students honored by the Mehlville Optimist Club at the organization’s annual Youth Apprecia-tion Breakfast.

Honored were Mehlville Senior High School students Rahul Nemani and Alana Wuertz and Oakville Senior High School students Christy Beil and Meghna Naga-bhushan.

Optimist Club President Laverne Buck-ner presented each student with a commemorative plaque and a $100 savings bond.

The students were nominated for the award by their high school principals. Each nominated student demonstrated good citizenship, outstanding academic success and exemplary qualities of leadership.

Brief biographies of each student’s accomplishments were listed in the Youth Appreciation Breakfast program.

Nemani is president of the National Honor Society, volunteers on the Student Team Leadership Committee and is a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist.

Wuertz is a member of Student Council, plays soccer and basketball for Mehlville and is an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity.

Beil has a perfect 4.0 grade-point average, is president of the Student Council and is a member of Future Business Lead-ers of America.

Nagabhushan is president of the National Honor Society, co-treasurer of the Senior Class and volunteers for many organizations including the St. Louis Area Food-bank.

Mehlville High Principal Vince Viviano was given the honor of introducing his school’s two honorees and Oakville Senior Class Principal Jan Kellerman introduced Oakville’s honorees.
