Daniel D Wernig

Daniel David Wernig, 81, died at home in St. Louis April 17.
He was born August 19, 1940, in St. Louis to David Wernig and Olivia Dorothy Wernig (nee Schenk). He married Elaine Wernig (nee Becker) Nov. 9, 1974, in Clayton. Elain preceded him in death on June 26, 2020.
He is survived by daughter Laura (Benjamin Null) of St. Louis; son Darin Wernig of O’Fallon; brother Kenneth R. Wernig of Beaumont, Texas, and grandsons Brandon and Brycen, both of St. Louis.
He was a 1958 graduate of O’Fallon Tech High School and competed in the 1958 Missouri state high school wrestling tournament in the 127 pound class.
Wernig served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1958-1961 as a radio operator. He spent his work career as a project engineer, which included designing light fixtures that hang from the entrances to Jesse Hall, the University of Missouri’s administration building in Columbia.
He was a do-it-yourselfer at home, which included designing and building an addition to his family home in the 1980s.
