To the editor:
Don’t get me wrong, I love a parade. But the homecoming parade that was sanctioned by Lindbergh High School with the assistance of the county police was ridiculous.
It was 5:45 p.m. Traffic was stopped at Lindbergh and Roxanna Drive.
I saw the flashing lights from the police cars, fearing a major accident — only to see the beginning of a long parade crossing Lindbergh entering the school grounds.
We sat for 15 minutes. Some cars chose to turn around.
I sincerely hope no one had an emergency.
Shutting down a major artery for a trivial parade screams for a better plan.
And that would be to break up the parade at, let’s say, every other traffic light sequence.
Traffic would still be tied up, but not at a standstill. Better yet, don’t shut down a major highway unless it’s for an emergency.
