Oakville students to compete in state event

For the 10th time in school history, the Oakville Senior High Science Olympiad Team has earned a spot in the Missouri Science Olympiad Competition that will take place Saturday, April 24, at Columbia.

Just 32 teams statewide qualify for the state competition. Oakville earned the right to compete at the state level after finishing among the top four teams at the recent St. Louis Area Regional Science Olympiad.

At the St. Louis event, Oakville students placed in 13 of 23 events, winning a total of 26 medals and ribbons.

Students will compete in 25 events at the state event. They’ll be required to demonstrate knowledge and engineering skills in biology, chemistry, physics and earth science.

Representing Oakville Senior High at the state event will be Dave Beach, Phillip Bourner, Phil Downey, David Ferry, Joe Ferry, Paul Giljum, Jon Hornung, John Hughes, Laura Hurlburt, Jane Kohnen, Joe O’Hanlon, Jeff Pretz, Ryan Richter, Malachi Rein, Greg Schmoll and J.C. Scholfield.

The Oakville High Science Olympiad Team is coached by Ellen Downey and Ken Kolwyck.
