Oakville Middle School eighth-grader Zachary Wells recently organized a special-needs basketball camp at Oakville Senior High School as part of his National Junior Honor Society service project.

Zack enlisted a number of volunteers to assist him with the camp, including his sponsor, Oakville High junior varsity basketball coach Colten Hill; some players from the Oakville High basketball team, Ethan Hansen, Ryan Siebel, Donavan Tritschler; and his parents.

Also helping with the camp were friends Drew Bishop of Oakville Middle School, Sandy Rezek, Dale Ribble, Janice Seiffert of the Crosscourt Basketball Academy and Pat Hawkins, Special Olympics Wildcats head coach.

Zack’s oldest brother, Robbie, also at-tended the basketball camp.

Robbie was the inspiration behind Zack joining Special Olympics as a unified player on the Wildcats team. Zack organized the special-needs basketball camp so that his brother and other special-needs individuals can learn basketball skills and play scrimmage games.

Robbie has been a Special Olympian for the past 21 years, and Zack and his family have been very active in the organization.
