Oakville Senior High girls’ soccer team defeats Notre Dame for second ’06 win

The Oakville Senior High School girls’ soccer team notched its second win of the season Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 victory at Notre Dame.

Oakville’s win over Notre Dame ended a week that included a 0-0 tie against Cor Jesu and a 2-1 loss at Fort Zumwalt West.

“We had a good passing game going (against Notre Dame), especially in the first half,” Oakville head coach Dave Robben told the Call. “In the second half, Notre Dame made some adjustments and both teams had their chances to score.”

Oakville (2-1-1) took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by midfielder Megan Reel. The senior has scored two goals this season.

“Megan’s been playing really well,” Robben said. “She has a knack for attacking the goal from the flank and has really been someone that’s stepped up and played well.”

Megan Flecke received the assist on Reel’s goal, which was her first of the season. The junior recorded seven goals and four assists last season.

“Megan (Flecke) has done a really good job at serving the ball across the field to Megan Reel,” Robben said. “They’ve connected really well last year and seem to have picked up where they left off from last year.”

Oakville starting goalkeeper Hillary Scott had the shutout as she recorded six saves in her first win of the season. The senior is 1-0-1 with 12 saves and a 0.00 goals-against average.

“Hillary did a really good job,” Robben said. “She was able to read the attack really well and came up big on one particular save this week against Cor Jesu.”

The Tigers are back in action at 5 p.m. Friday when they play Blue Valley Northwest High School of Overland Park, Kan., in the St. Joseph’s Academy Soccer Classic at SportPort in Maryland Heights.

The Oakville Senior High School girls’ soccer team also will play Pius X High School of Lincoln, Neb., at 9 a.m. Saturday and Bob Jones High School of Madison, Ala., at 3 p.m. Saturday.
