With the District 10 Tournament nearing, the Oakville American Legion baseball team is looking to continue its hot streak when it takes on Perryville tonight — July 7 — at Heine Meine.
Oakville (18-16, 4-5 District 10) and Perryville met earlier this season and Oak-ville hammered out nine hits in a 10-5 win.
“They (Perryville) have got a few aggressive hitters and a pitcher that’s good at changing speeds on you,” Oakville head coach Matt Boyer told the Call.
The projected starting pitchers for Oak-ville in the double header against Perryville are Tim Kappel and J.R. Fogelbach.
Kappel is 3-1 overall with an impressive 2.68 earned run average. In his last outing June 25, Kappel threw a complete game of seven innings, giving up two runs on seven hits in a 7-2 win over St. Peters.
“Tim’s one of those four kids on our team that expects to finish a game when he’s on the mound,” Boyer explained. “Every time he’s out on the mound, he gives us a chance to win.”
Fogelbach has earned the reputation of a workhorse for Oakville this season after appearing in 12 games this season, including four starts. He currently is 3-0 overall with a 4.93 earned run average.
In his last outing against Festus June 28, Fogelbach took the no decision despite pitching six innings, giving up eight runs on 10 hits in a 10-9 win.
“In his last outing against Festus, he pitched very well,” Boyer explained. “If we had made a few plays defensively, we probably would have had them (Festus) down to about five runs.”
Oakville’s double-header against Perry-ville is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start with the second game slated for 8 p.m.
