To the editor:
I see that a steering committee has been formed to investigate Oakville breaking away from St. Louis County?
Speaking for me, this is the last thing that I want. An extra layer of government? I certainly do not see the point of this at all. There are so many stories of problems in other splinter municipalities around St. Louis and this is a giant step in the wrong direction, I believe.
I don’t know what the catalyst is for this now. I’m not sure if it is the property on Telegraph Road or the merger talks between St. Louis City and St. Louis County? Something else?
The solution is not breaking away, but voting your position.
Breaking away is counterproductive and extreme.
