Oakville looks to learn from loss to Webster

An up-and-down affair best describes last week for the Oakville Senior High School boys’ soccer team.

The Tigers (2-3, 1-0 Suburban West) started the week Sept. 4 with a commanding 3-0 win over Mehlville. But after a game against Chaminade was rained out the next day, Oakville finished the week Saturday at home with a 2-1 loss to Webster Groves.

“This was certainly a learning-experience kind of loss,” Oakville head coach Dave Robben told the Call. “Let’s hope this is a game to learn from.”

Oakville’s lone goal came from junior midfielder David Doggendorf near the end of the first half. The goal was Doggendorf’s first of the season.

“Austin Bram sent a pass in and (Ajdin) Dedic ran on it and passed it off to Doggendorf, who took a low shot into the crowd,” Robben said. “The shot deflected off a player and went right into the corner.”

The Tigers are on the road today — Sept. 13 — when they travel to Northwest for a Suburban West Conference meeting with the Lions.

The game at Northwest begins at 6 p.m.
