Oakville letter writer commends county Department of Transportation

To the editor:

I want to commend the St. Louis County Department of Transportation for keeping its commitment for my request.

I am the trustee for the Oakville Acres subdivision — established in 1955. Two years ago, I called and spoke to a project manager about how outdated our street was.

Our signs also were old, rusted and outdated. The street was in poor shape.

He gave me a commitment of two years, saying it would be 2016 before they could get to our street.

Right on target. It was two years. Area Manager James Wissler was very reassuring that our street and curbs, along with fresh concrete, would be poured. Many driveways were manicured as a courtesy to give our street its clean, updated look.

Demolition took place. Sure it was an inconvenience for our residents, but the outcome has been a blessing in disguise.

The employees are very respectful — happy, not grumpy, like some of the neighbors who had an inconvenience with parking their cars or getting in and out of their driveways.

The employees’ extra time and effort will be very much appreciated when this project is done and completed.

Hey, life goes on. Be glad we have God’s gift on this earth/in our neighborhoods, on our streets.

This project will take some time, some inconvenience, but look ahead folks, there is always light ahead in a tunnel. It will be so nice when it is done and completed.

I want to give special thanks to Mr. Wissler and his crew. Keep up your hard work. You are doing a wonderful job in our Oakville Acres subdivision.

Mr. Wissler, I would like to shake your hand, along with all your team.
