Oakville boys win district volleyball tourney

After splitting games with Marquette during the regular season and in the Subur-ban West Conference Tournament, the Oakville Senior High School boys’ volleyball team capped off the Class 4, District 4 Tournament with an impressive 17-25, 25-16, 15-10 win over the Mustangs.

“When we played at Marquette earlier this season, they annihilated us,” said Morgan Lucas, Oakville’s head coach. “So we went in there looking for redemption be-cause we had a lot to prove going into that match at their place.”

Outside hitter Pat Austin led the Tigers with a total of 10 kills and two blocks. The senior outside hitter was instrumental in Oakville’s come-from-behind win over Marquette.

“Pat didn’t have a great game during that first game against Marquette,” Lucas said. “So, I pulled him off to the side and told him that we needed him to be a leader on the court if we wanted to win.”

Sophomore middle hitter Dan Condra was right behind Austin with a total of nine kills and two blocks.

“Dan has been amazing this year,” Lucas said. “He just played phenomenal in the second and third games against Marquette.”

Senior setter Matt Vogler led the Tigers with a total of 18 assists and three kills as he and Bryan Condra quarterbacked the Oakville offense during the second and third games in a near-flawless execution.

“Matt came out in the second game and really delivered the ball,” Lucas said. “Both Matt and Bryan Condra ran the court really well and our offense was just so effective in those second and third games.”

The Tigers were slated to face CBC in the Class 4 quarterfinal Tuesday — after the Call went to press.
