As they look forward to graduation, a dozen student athletes at Oakville Senior High School now have one less decision to make.
The athletes recently gathered in the school’s gymnasium to sign commitment letters to accept scholarships to continue their playing careers in college.
Proud parents and coaches were on hand to witness the event and share hugs with the athletes, according to a district news release.
The 12 athletes included three soccer players, three softball players, two football players, two baseball players, a swimmer and a track/cross country star. The future college stars included six young women and six young men.
Heading off to Lindenwood University will be Brad Marquardt (swimming), Lauren Hoffmann (track/cross country) and Nickie Jones (softball).
Continuing their playing careers at Southwest Missouri State will be Dan Graham (football) and Andy Cooper (soccer).
St. Louis University signed Eric Brewer (baseball), Truman State University inked Sherri Johnson (softball), Westminster College signed Brendon Magruder (baseball) and Missouri Western successfully recruited Nick Wymore (football).
Three Oakville grads will leave the Show-Me State to play college sports.
Becky Wegmann (softball) is heading to Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, while Jackie Roepke (soccer) is going to Illinois State and Valerie Vogler (soccer) is Cajun-country bound to play at Louisiana State University.
