Oakville American Legion enjoys 10-0 hit parade against Crestwood

Sunday evening was a hit parade for the Oakville American Legion baseball team in a 10-0 win over Crestwood at Heine Meine Field.

The win for Oakville (8-10, 2-3 District 10 South) marked the team’s second win in the past three games, which had head coach Matt Boyer praising his team’s stout defensive play.

“Everything came together and we scored some runs early on that set the tempo and relaxed us a little bit,” Boyer told the Call. “Our defense carried us through.

Oakville starting pitcher Brian Randolph went the distance as he threw a complete game of seven innings, giving up only four hits. Randolph struck out four batters and yielded zero walks in his second win of the season.

“Brian threw a heck of a game,” Boyer said. “He threw 74 pitches in seven innings. You can’t be much better than that.”

Oakville catcher Greg Dambach set the tempo of the game with a 3-4 performance that included three runs batted in.

“Greg had a really good game,” Boyer said. “He set the tempo and really hit the ball hard every time he was up.”

Boyer believes that the best is yet to come for his team since having pitchers Tony Maus and Jake Morgan joining the team after leading the Mehlville Senior High School baseball team to the state semifinals earlier this month.

“This was like our fourth game with everybody back,” Boyer said. “Our record doesn’t really reflect what kind of team we really have. We’ve lost a lot of one run games.”

Oakville is on the road this weekend as it travels to Mountain Home, Ark., for an American Legion Tournament before returning home and traveling to Rock Memorial Monday evening. The game against Rock Memorial is slated for an 8 p.m. start.
