Gov. Jay Nixon has issued an executive order to would expedite tornado cleanup in St. Louis.

Specifically, the order would allow the director of the Department of Natural Resources to relax some of the rules and regulations for debris clean up and removal.

Nixon spokesman Scott Holste said the tornado clean up needs to be done quickly.

“There are situations where you have to expedite that type of clean up, and in order to expedite that type of clean up it may require some of the rules and regulations to be waived,” Holste said.

The governor last issued an order like this after a tornado-producing storm struck St. Louis on New Year’s Eve.

The order will be in effect until May 23.
