Newsweek, US News and Washington Post rank Lindbergh High School among nation’s best

Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report and the Washington Post all rank Lindbergh High School on their 2012 lists of the best educational institutions in the nation.

The announcement is a fitting conclusion to a year of major accomplishments for LHS. The school was also named a National School of Character and Missouri Gold Star School, and 2011-2012 Missouri Teacher of the Year finalist Eric Cochran received a $25,000 Milken Excellence in Education Award.

“We are very proud of our school’s achievements, which are among the best in the nation, and they would not be possible without concerted team effort,” LHS Principal Ron Helms stated in a district news release. “Lindbergh High School’s tradition of excellence is made possible by exceptional teachers at every level, K-12, students who exhibit good character and a strong work ethic, and parents who are committed to their children’s success.”

Lindbergh’s rankings are:

• No. 8 in Missouri, No. 663 of 1,000 nationwide – Newsweek’s “America’s Best High Schools.”

• No. 8 in Missouri, No. 876 of 22,000 nationwide, Silver Medal of Distinction – U.S. News and World Report’s “Best High Schools.”

• No. 7 in Missouri, No. 937 of 1,900 nationwide – The Washington Post’s “High School Challenge.”

Every list ranks schools differently, but the goal of each is to measure how well high schools prepare students for college. LHS offers both Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate options for students to help them prepare for college and earn college credit. In addition, 88 percent of students at LHS achieved proficiency in English II in 2011, while 73 percent scored proficient or better in Algebra I.
