Newspaper urges voters to support Mehlville Proposition E in April

The Call indisputably endorses the Mehlville School District’s Proposition E, a 31-cent tax-rate increase that will appear on the April 4 ballot.

The “E” in Prop E stands for “Ensuring high-quality teachers and staff” and we believe it can also stand for “Ensuring students’ success.” Like Superintendent Chris Gaines said, the district needs to recruit high-quality “big people” to teach the “little people.” We believe the increase is extremely reasonable considering the needs of the district. Like so many other businesses, school districts are not immune to problems such as employee retention and recruitment, and remaining competitive. A strong school district makes a strong community. A vote for Prop E shows Mehlville support staff and teachers that they are supported by that community.
