Children throughout the area nominated their mothers for the honor of being named Mother of the Year in Call Newspapers’ annual contest.

Among the traits most admired by children was the knowledge that mothers make many sacrifices to better their children’s lives.

“She shares her french fries with me with-out making me give her any of mine,” wrote Sarah Kelly of Concord.

“She always puts everyone else’s needs before hers and she deserves to win this contest and have something for herself for once,” wrote Susan Gaughan of Imperial.

Many children saw the contest as a way to recognize their moms for being there for them.
