The Missouri Military Academy in Mexico recently recognized the accomplishments of St. Louis native and junior cadet Staff Sgt. Derek Ryan of the 126th Corps of Cadets.
During the academy’s recent Commencement Weekend celebration, Ryan received the Military Order of the Purple Heart Award for demonstrating leadership, according to a news release.
Upon the recommendation of the Designation Board, he was named Delta Company commander during a formal ceremony on the academy’s front lawn, the release stated.
In April, the academy welcomed families to the field house for the Spring Family Weekend battalion review, which was conducted in honor of academy mothers and grandmothers.
Ryan was honored in front of the crowd for displaying “discipline, courtesy and character, and potential for achieving positions of ever-increasing responsibility,” according to the release.
