Missouri American Water replacing aging water lines in south county

Missouri American Water is replacing waterlines to enhance service reliability in the Crestwood and Bella Villa areas.

In Crestwood, about 1,932 feet of 55-year-old, six-inch diameter water main is being replaced with a new section of eight-inch diameter water main along Fox Park Drive between East Watson Road and Westhaven Court and all of Green Crest Lane.

The replacement work is slated for completion in early June. Drivers may notice some closures of the westbound lane of Fox Park Drive and the northbound lane of Green Crest Lane during the projected two-month construction.

About 1,188 feet of a 50-year-old, six-inch diameter water main is being replaced with a new section of eight-inch diameter pipe along Virgo Avenue between Paule Avenue and Hoffmeister Avenue in Bella Villa. The work is scheduled for completion in late May. Drivers may notice some closures of the southbound lane of Virgo Avenue during the projected 1.5-month construction.

About 1,730 feet of a six-inch diameter water main that is almost 90 years old is being replaced with a new section of eight-inch diameter pipe along Hoffmeister Avenue between Lemay Ferry Road and Comar Avenue in Bella Villa. The work is slated for completion in late June. Drivers may notice some closures of the northbound lane of Hoffmeister Avenue during the projected two-month construction.

Company engineers select replacement projects based upon their community benefits, including reducing water main breaks and improving the overall integrity of the water system in the area. Missouri American Water maintains about 4,200 miles of water mains in the St. Louis area.

Missouri American Water invested roughly $30 million in St. Louis area water main improvements during 2011. Missouri American Water has notified residents about maintaining water service to their homes and businesses during the construction process.
