Miguel supporting Robinson for mayoral post

To the editor:

On Tuesday, Aug. 3, you will be asked to vote for the next mayor of Crestwood.

In my opinion, this is a critical election. It will set the direction for the city of Crestwood for the foreseeable future. In my mind, the decision is very clear: Roy Robinson is by far the best candidate.

While there are several important issues, financial responsibility is at the top of the list. Since my election I have done my best to understand the finances of the city. At this time I feel I have a good understanding of where we are and where we are headed.

Unfortunately it is not a pretty picture. There are two trends that are working against us. Personnel costs continue to increase, and personnel services like police and fire are the city’s major costs. The second trend working against us is that our sales-tax revenue base has been in decline for the past five years.

Turning Crestwood around is going to be a long and difficult task. The problems didn’t happen overnight. We need new, strong and dedicated leadership, which is why I am supporting Roy Robinson for mayor. I met Roy when I campaigned in April.

Since then, I have talked to him several times. The more I talk to Roy, the more confident I am in his ability to get Crestwood back on the right track. I feel that Roy has the background and experience to lead the city through the difficult days ahead. As Roy retired recently, he has told me he will devote as much time as necessary to get the city back on track.

Most importantly, I feel that Roy will be fair and firm in working with the board and the administration and that he has the ability to lead us to make the difficult decisions that need to be made.

It’s time for a change. On Aug. 3, I encourage you to vote for Roy Robinson.

Jerry Miguel
