Middle school pupils assist Feed My People

Middle school pupils assist Feed My People

The National Junior Honor Society and Student Council groups at Washington Middle School in the Mehlville School District have proved that you don’t have to be big to make a difference.

During a recent two-week period, the seventh- and eighth-graders collected canned goods and money for the Feed My People organization.

To encourage donations, many teachers offered incentives, including pizza parties to the top contributing classes. Honor So-ciety and Student Council members were responsible for stacking cans and keeping track of donations.

Thanks to the generosity of Washington Middle School pupils and families, a total of 3,100 canned goods and $1,214.50 in cash was collected. The Honor Society and Student Council members made a special trip to Feed My People to hand deliver the food and money.

In keeping the spirit of learning alive, the Feed My People staff gave the Washington Middle students a tour of the facility and shared insight with the kids about the importance of their donations and how the community at large would be helped.

The pupils were thanked by the Feed My People representatives for “touching the lives of those who most need it.” After the tour, the Washington pupils worked in the thrift store and behind the scenes preparing canned goods to be distributed.

The National Junior Honor Society and Student Council groups are guided by Me-lissa Bierman, Lisa Crain, Wendy Gicante and Carol Sullivan.
