MFPD sells former No. 3 Firehouse

Gateway House of Prayer purchases structure for $200,000

The Mehlville Fire Protection District Board of Directors voted in closed session today — Wednesday — to sell its former No. 3 Firehouse to Gateway House of Prayer for $200,000.

Gateway House of Prayer, 4646 S. Lindbergh Blvd., is across the street from the former No. 3 Firehouse at 11625 Sappington Barracks Road in Sunset Hills.

The former firehouse was built in 1957, and district officials have said the size of today’s fire apparatus and other factors made the structure obsolete.

A new No. 3 Firehouse was completed earlier this year at 4811 S. Lindbergh Blvd., about 1,000 feet to the east.

Sealed bids for the sale of the property, including the one-story former firehouse, were accepted by the district until 2 p.m. Friday, July 13. The property was sold “as is.” Bids were opened last month by the Board of Directors.

Mehlville firefighters moved into the 8,000-square-foot, three-bay new No. 3 Firehouse in mid-April, and an open house was conducted April 28.

The new firehouse is similar in design to the district’s No. 2 and No. 4 firehouses, but also includes a training tower and a walkout basement.

The No. 2 Firehouse at 5434 Telegraph Road was completed in 2009 and the No. 4 Firehouse at 13117 Tesson Ferry Road was finished early last year.

District officials also are selling the site of the former No. 4 Firehouse at 13106 Tesson Ferry Road. The asking price has been reduced to $239,000 from $297,000.
