MFPD open house draws nearly 200 people

The Mehlville Fire Protection District’s recent observance of Fire Prevention Week concluded with an open house at the district’s headquarters on Mueller Road in Green Park.

Nearly 200 people visited with firefighters and paramedics, watched repelling demonstrations, practiced using fire extinguishers and learned how to safely install their child safety seats.

District officials also collaborated with Domino’s Pizza to promote this year’s fire-safety message of “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep: Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm.”

Each evening during Fire Prevention Week, pumper crews assisted Domino’s with food delivery.

If customers had working smoke alarms in their home, their order was complimentary from Domino’s, according to a news release.

If customers needed an alarm or a battery, firefighters would install the necessary items to ensure the safety of citizens. Of 21 deliveries, only one household did not have working smoke alarms, the release stated.
