MFPD deputy chief is recruits’’ class choice for special honors

Deputy Chief Steven D. Mossotti has been selected the 60th Recruit Class Honoree by the St. Louis County Fire Academy.

Each recruit class is dedicated to an individual who the recruits will recognize as a role model. The nomination must come from fire department personnel and must be submitted in writing to the St. Louis County Fire Academy Board of Directors.

Mossotti will be honored at 7:30 p.m. April 21 at the class graduation at the St. Louis County Fire Academy.

Mossotti joined Mehlville Fire Protection District in 1975.

During his career he had held the position of Engineer, Captain, Training Officer and currently holds the rank of Deputy Chief. He has been decorated with such honors as the Bronze Medallion of Valor and two Phoenix Awards.

Mossotti holds a masters degree in management from Webster University and bachelor of science degree in management and industrial safety from Central Missouri State University. He is a life long resident of South St. Louis County.

Mossotti is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Md.

Mossotti serves on the Pension Committee and implemented the district’s computerized fire incident reporting system as well as the personnel and training record systems. In 2002, Mossotti was named Chairman of the District’s Strategic Planning Committee and appointed the Media Liaison.
