MFPD captain honored for distinguished service

MFPD captain honored for distinguished service

Capt. Kevin Kehoe of the Mehlville Fire Protection District recently was recognized with a Distinguished Service Award by the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

Honorees recognized at the organization’s 2003 reception represented Ancient Order of Hibernians members from labor unions and police and fire agencies killed on or after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist at-tacks.

Kehoe joined the Mehlville Fire Protec-tion District in 1977, according to a fire district news release. Before that time, he was a member of Mehlville’s Auxiliary Pro-gram for three years.

Kehoe was promoted to engineer in 1988 and captain in 1997. He was decorated with the Phoenix Award in 2000.

Since 1987, Kehoe has held the position of 3rd District vice president with the Missouri State Council of Firefighters and also has served as president of the council’s Community Services Organization.

The Missouri State Council conducts a statewide Stop and Think Program and provides smoke and carbon monoxide detectors for fire districts and their residents. Kehoe is active in providing charitable contributions and resources for or-ganizations in Missouri.

In addition, he has been the 2nd District state representative for the International Association of Fire Fighters since 1992 and is a 26-year active member of Mehl-ville Local 1889. He has held the positions of secretary/treasurer, vice president and president while serving on on Local 1889’s Executive Board for more than 14 years.

Additionally, Kehoe has been involved in many aspects of the Muscular Dystro-phy Association since 1977.

Kehoe, 49, was born in Detroit, Mich., and raised in Sault Ste. Marie. He came to St. Louis in 1967 and currently lives in Arnold with his three children: Christo-pher, Anthony and Andrew. He is a member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Arnold. When he is not at the firehouse or working with other organizations, he is an avid golfer.
