Membership drive kicks off for new organization

The South County Police Business Association will kick off its initial membership drive on Sunday, May 1.

This recently organized association was created to foster cooperation and support for the officers of the South County Precincts in their work of protecting citizens and businesses and to maintain a safe community in which to raise a family and conduct business, according to a news release.

Fourth Precinct Capt. Marion Monteleone and 3rd Precinct Capt. Michael Dierkes support the new organization and believe that the support of local officers by residents and business is vital to ensure effective law enforcement and a safe atmosphere in the growing south county community, the release stated.

County Council Chairman Steve Stenger, who represents south county, is an SCPBA board member.

“This is a great way for the businesses and residents in our community to show support for our officers,” Stenger stated in the release.

The organization will be comprised of individuals and businesses within the precincts that share those goals and believe community involvement is a necessary part of making south county safe and prosperous.

On Sunday, the SCPBA will participate in the second annual Steve Baer Memorial Car Show and Barbecue at 2511 Lemay Ferry Road. The event, featuring free entry for cars and motorcycles, will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call (314) 631-1158. The rain date is May 15.

All proceeds will benefit the SCPBA.
