Mehlville students raise money for BackStoppers at summer session

The students and staff of the Mehlville School District’s Summer Session raised more than $2,000 June 27 for BackStoppers.

The elementary schools held a ‘PJs for Police’ fundraiser, and middle-school students did a Hats on for Police fundraiser.

At Mehlville High School, students had a friendly fundraising competition, and the winning class received a pretzel party.

BackStoppers provides financial assistance and support to the spouses and dependent children of area police officers, firefighters and publicly funded paramedics and EMTs who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

BackStoppers is currently assisting the family of Officer Michael Langsdorf, a Mehlville High alum.

Officers Kelly Eller and Lynette Ryan delivered the donations. Langsdorf, 40, graduated from MHS in 1997 and was shot and killed June 23 at Clay’s Wellston Food Market after responding to a call about a bad check.

The students at Mehlville also held similar fundraisers after the death of Officer Blake Snyder in 2016.
