Mehlville Senior High School student Juan Edwards is the recipient of the Juror’s Award at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s 2011 Annual High School Art Exhibition.

Edwards, a senior, will receive a certificate and $100 prize for his charcoal self-portrait titled “The Thought.”

The juror, Dennis DeToye, said in a statement, “It was a privilege to jury this prestigious show. I believe the 2011 Annual High School Art Exhibition at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville to be a strong, selective, highly competitive show worthy of the great university which sponsored it.”

MHS senior Katlyn Sansone’s manipulated print, “You Are What You Eat,” and junior Haley Schlattmann’s clay piece, “Zebra Fashionista,” also were selected for the 2011 show, which featured only 43 works of art.

Edwards, Sansone and Schlattmann competed against high school juniors and seniors living within a 50-mile radius of SIUE to be selected for this year’s exhibit, which was displayed at the SIUE Wagner Art Gallery from March 29 through April 15.
