Mehlville seeking volunteers to study participation in VICC program

Volunteers are being sought by the Mehlville School District to study the district’s future participation in the Voluntary Interdistrict Choice Corp. program, also called the Voluntary Transfer Student Program.

The group will study the VICC settlement agreement in relationship to the Mehlville School District, focusing on financial and educational issues.

The Mehlville VICC Study Group will meet twice a month from August through November. Each meeting will last about 90 minutes.

At the conclusion of the meetings, the group will make a formal presentation to the Board of Education, presenting board members with various options to consider for future participation in the VICC program relating to the settlement agreement.

The 20- to 25-member study group will be comprised of parents, including one parent from each VICC area; staff members, including Special School District; students, including one VICC student from each high school; community members; and two Board of Education members.

The group’s meetings will be facilitated by Superintendent Tim Ricker, Deputy Superintendent Jane Reed and South Area Superintendent Keith Klusmeyer. The study group will select two chairmen to run the meetings.

Those interested in volunteering to serve on the Mehlville VICC Study Groups should contact the superintendent’s office at 467-5002 for an application.

Membership selection will take place the week of Aug. 18, with the first meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 26 in the library at Mehlville Senior High School, 3200 Lemay Ferry Road.
