Components of the Mehlville School District’s character education program are evident in every classroom across the district, according to a district news release.
For their efforts, 13 Mehlville schools have been honored by the Character Education Partnership, or CEP, with a total of 20 Promising Practices Awards in Character Education this year.
Eight of the district’s elementary schools received national recognition this year, along with three middle schools and both high schools, for implementing effective programs that encourage the ethical, social and academic growth of students through character education.
“Character education is evident in everything we do across the Mehlville School District and is critical to helping our students become ethical, compassionate, service-minded adults,” Superintendent Eric Knost stated in the release. “The number of Promising Practices we’ve earned over the past five years has continued to grow, and I know we’ll make even greater strides in the coming years as we further embed the principles of character education throughout our district.”
As part of its National Schools of Character, or NSOC, awards program, the CEP distributes annual Promising Practices Awards to schools and districts in the United States and around the world for implementing unique and specific strategies in character education. Five of the District’s elementary schools have been named Missouri Schools of Character through the NSOC program this year, and one elementary school was named a 2012 National School of Character.
