Thousands of Mehlville School District students and staff have provided service to their community during the past few months through Project ENGAGE, the District’s service learning program.
Though service learning in the district will be ongoing, the official time frame for Project ENGAGE soon will come to a close. To culminate this successful program while encouraging students and staff to continue providing acts of service in their community, the District will host a Goodwill Donation Day on Saturday, April 16, at the Goodwill collection trailer located on the campus of the St. John’s Building, 3701 Will Ave.
Students, staff and community members are asked to clean out their closets and bring gently used items, including house wares, clothes and furniture, to the Goodwill trailer from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. For a complete list of items accepted by MERS/Goodwill, visit
Even though the Project ENGAGE time frame is coming to an end, Deputy Superintendent and Project ENGAGE organizer Eric Knost encourages district students and staff to continue serving others an important value which has been instilled in students throughout the project.
“We want to make sure our students understand that our Project ENGAGE efforts are ongoing; one of our goals through this project was to help our students realize the importance of service in our lives far beyond the Project ENGAGE timeframe,” Knost stated in a district news release. “Thousands of our students have engaged and decided to give back in one way or another during Project ENGAGE. The countless stories that continue to come in leave us all with a good feeling about our students’ contributions to their communities and their world.”
Donations collected at the Goodwill trailer on the campus of the St. John’s Building, which houses the SCOPE program, will be sold in Goodwill stores to produce revenue used to support the many employment programs which help people locally, the release statede.
The Goodwill trailer accepts tax-deductible donations Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
