Mehlville pupils participate in Academic Olympics

Pupils from all 10 Mehlville School Dis-trict elementary schools recently competed in the district’s annual Elementary Acade-mic Olympics.

Fourth- and fifth-grade pupils competed individually in storytelling, poetry, math and spelling at Oakville Senior High School.

In addition, 23 four-member teams en-tered the scholar quiz event.

The math and spelling competitions were separated by grade levels. Taking first place honors in the math competition were fourth-grader Lucy Right of Blades and fifth-grader Adam Rosfeld of Bierbaum.

Gold-medal winners in spelling were fourth-grader Colin Sullivan of Rogers and fifth-grader Jenna Folluo of Hagemann.

Fourth-graders competed in a poetry competition. Earning a bronze medal for third place was Emily Gordon of Rogers with Naila Vohra of Oakville claiming the silver medal and Lilly Karrer of Point taking first place and winning the gold medal.

Fifth-graders competed in the storytelling competition. Stefanie Schmidt of Wohlwend earned the bronze medal, Han-nah Eldridge of Rogers earned the silver medal and Abby Voss of Point finished in first place to capture the gold medal.

The Elementary Academic Olympics Scholar Quiz Champion for 2005 is the Wohlwend A team comprised of Brandon Daake, Ryan Strohm, Michael Behrends and Clay Stocker.
