The 2004 Anti-Smoking calendar from the St. Louis County Department of Health will feature artwork from five Mehlville School District pupils.
The Mehlville pupils were among the 13 winners chosen by the Department of Health in its annual tobacco-free poster contest.
A total of 996 St. Louis County pupils in grades one through 12 entered the pos-ter/slogan contest.
Margaret Buerkle Middle School seventh-grader Khanhvan Nguyen earned the prestigious honor of having her artwork chosen to grace the cover of the calendar.
Hagemann Elementary sixth-grader Denae Skrob’s artwork will be featured in January, Hagemann sixth-grader Christine Dunham’s artwork will be featured in August, Hage-mann sixth-grader Brittany Ruess’ artwork will be featured in October and Margaret Buerkle seventh-grader Tijana Orescanin’s artwork will be featured in November.
Each pupil who won received a certificate of achievement and a $20 gift card for Westfield Shoppingtowns. The winning pupils and their teachers also will receive a copy of the calendar when it is printed in the fall. The winning entries also can be viewed at the Department of Health’s website at

Several pupils earned honorable-mention certificates from the Department of Health for their anti-smoking poster entries.
Margaret Buerkle pupils selected to re-ceive honorable-mention certificates were Emina Kajezovic, Samantha Fiala and Godiva Reisenbichler.
Earning honorable-mention certificates from Hagemann Elementary were Jordan Bova, Tom Kirkpatrick, Hannah Roling and Chris Baltazar.
Hagemann pupils participating in the contest are all in Michelle Schira’s sixth-grade class. Margaret Buerkle’s participants are all in Judy Fischer’s health class.
