Mehlville Optimists honor Essay Contest winners

The Mehlville Optimist Club recently honored the winners of its 2016 Essay Contest. This year’s topic was ‘Lead by Example: Reality or Fiction?’ The three finalists read their 700- to 800-word essays at an awards ceremony and received a framed certificate, placement medal and a monetary prize. Pictured, from left, are: Essay Contest Chairman Craig Riek; Zach Wells of Oakville Middle School, third place; Alana Crumley of Washington Middle School, second place; and Samantha Ramay of Washington Middle School, first place. As the first-place winner, Samantha’s essay was submitted to the Missouri Optimist District to compete for a $2,500 scholarship.
