Mehlville Optimist Club members distributed dictionaries Monday to third-grade students at Rogers Elementary School. Optimist Club member Ron Paul said the dictionary initiative is part of a nationwide Optimist Club program. After taking part in the program in the past, it is one the Mehlville Optimists are re-starting. The club plans to distribute 700 free dictionaries to third-graders at elementary schools across the district. Paul, left, and fellow Optimist Club member Warren Stegmann, right, were joined by Rogers Elementary Principal Patrick Keenoy and several third-graders in the school cafeteria. Paul said the Optimists sponsor many youth activities, including scholarship programs. One of the Optimists’ slogans is “Friend of Youth.”
